Without the corona crisis, we would now be looking at the second week at Wimbledon. Like in 2007, when Michaëlla Krajicek made the last eight on the holy grass in London. Krajicek, I hear you think, does he still play tennis?
“I totally get that, if people think so,” says Michaëlla Krajicek, now 31, twelve years ago, number thirty in the world and winner of three WTA titles, just before she has to go to work for a training session. With a new coach, she has been working towards a return for weeks.
“I feel really good. I know that I can do even better physically, but I have to build it up. It’s all going in the right direction.”
Lively Instagram account
Krajicek did not play any international game last year. Partly as a result of two ankle and six knee surgeries, Richard’s half-sister disappeared terribly quickly into the twilight zone of international tennis, eventually even seeing her name disappear from the world rankings. And because of that free fall, her motivation was also hard to find at a certain point.
However, she was not completely out of the picture. With her lively Instagram-account she made several media reviews. Sometimes with an artistic photo, other times with a spicy picture. “Of course I’m up to date, huh. Photographing and nice outfits, that’s really for fun,” she says.
