We chat with Jan Edöcs, CEO of Doxa, about his passions and interests outside of watchmaking – from his love for sports to his passion for the stock market
In this edition of Le temps d’une pause, we dive into the world of Jan Edöcs, CEO of Doxa, to discover what makes him tick outside the watch industry.
Whether it’s the start of his career, his long-standing connection to Corfu or his passion for the sport, Jan offers us an insight into the man who helped lead the revival of the iconic dive watch brand , since his arrival in 2019.
Hello Jan. So tell us: what is your favorite book?
Currently, “The Simple Way to Quit Smoking” by Allen Carr. I read it 12 years ago and quit smoking for two years. But I started again, so I’m reading it again in the hope that the method will work again!
Your favorite movie?
With my partner, we recently watched the new part of Beverly Hills Movie on Netflix. It brought back memories from my youth, when I watched the original films. It’s not the best of the series, but it was funny and nostalgic for me!
Your favorite album?
I don’t have a specific album, I listen to music depending on my mood. I love Yanni, a Greek pianist, and I’m a big Queen fan.

Your favorite cuisine?
A top quality beef fillet, cooked to perfection, with a nice salad and good accompaniments.
Your favorite drink?
Water to cool me down, but for pleasure, I prefer red wine.
Your favorite vacation destination?
Corfu, Greece. I’ve been going there since I was 14 and I have many friends there. I go back there every year with my children.

Your favorite TV show?
I like watching detective series in Spanish. They have the kind of intrigue that allows you to relax and follow the story without thinking too much. But in general, I prefer to watch sports – I’m a big fan of ice hockey, football and tennis.
Your favorite podcast?
I don’t really listen to podcasts, but I really like chill-out music, like that of DJ Regard on YouTube. It was my children who introduced me to it, and it’s ideal for relaxing.
Your favorite item of clothing (or clothing accessory)?
My gold chain, a gift from my mother while we were on vacation in Corfu. It may not be the prettiest piece, but it has great sentimental value. My son also has one now.
Your favorite pastime?
Walk, especially explore cities on foot. I like to travel through the different neighborhoods of a city and discover all the sites, artistic, modern or historical. It’s a great way to discover new places.
Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us.
People are often surprised when I sit down at the piano and start playing. I’ve been playing since I was three years old and I can reproduce a piece by ear.

What is the one item (not a watch) that you can’t live without?
This may sound strange, but my stock market app. I consult it every day to see how my investments are progressing!
Name one thing you would like to do or achieve, or a place you would like to visit, before you leave this world.
Building a house in Corfu is definitely on my bucket list. Apart from that, I would love to go on a world tour – traveling without knowing exactly when I will return.
Who has inspired you in your life and/or career? How did she do it?
My father. He was not in the watchmaking industry but in the pharmaceutical industry and he taught me the value of work. When I was 14, he bought me a suit and had me sell products to drugstores. I experienced the world of commerce very early on.
Name a famous person or historical figure, dead or alive, who you would like to have lunch with and tell us why.
Roger Federer. I am a huge tennis fan and, as a Swiss, I admire how he has achieved so much while keeping his feet on the ground and never becoming arrogant.

What was the first watch you owned? What was special about her?
I have a collection of 300 Swatches and I think one of my first watches was a Swatch prototype from 1979, when I was eight. Later, when I started working for Omega in the late 1980s, I received an Omega De Ville.
Finally, a little check of your wrist: what watch are you wearing and why do you like it?
Today I’m wearing the Doxa Army. I chose it because it goes well with my army green shirt.

Generally, I choose my watch based on my outfit, but my favorite is the SUB 300 Carbon which is super light and easy to wear every day.
