He Timanfaya National Park begins the celebration of its 50th anniversary with a complete program of activities that seek to awaken curiosity, sensitivity and respect for this unique natural space.
With an invitation to “appreciate the silence, recognize the wind and connect”An informative video kicked off the presentation of the activities celebrating this significant anniversary. Fifty years ago, Timanfaya received the title of National Park, a recognition of its beauty and uniqueness.

Pascual Gil Muñozdirector and conservator of the National Park since 2020, said: “These thirty seconds of video sum up the essence of what the park represents. We want to share this feeling with all of you.” The goal of this celebration is to foster curiosity and respect for Timanfaya, promoting community participation in its protection and conservation.
“Timanfaya is much more than a magnificent tourist centre,” Gil added. “It is a legacy of the volcano’s culture, a set of knowledge and resilience that the population demonstrated two centuries ago in facing the eruptions.” The park is also an important centre of scientific research, attracting studies of geology, biology and ecology.

The first anniversary exhibition, «Guardians of Timanfaya»will open to the public tomorrow, Saturday, August 10, 2024. This tribute to the park workers will be available daily, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Mancha Blanca Visitor and Interpretation Center, except on holidays.
Upcoming Talks and Events
The upcoming talks will feature the participation of the scientific community that has been linked to the park for decades. Topics such as geology, energy, public use and invasive species will be addressed, as well as current threats, including the massive influx of tourists that worries the community.
