Tim Walz Kicks Off High-Stakes Fundraiser in Boston as He Campaigns for Vice Presidency with Kamala Harris

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz Attends Fundraiser in Boston

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is set to headline a campaign fundraising event in Boston this Wednesday, marking his first trip to New England since officially joining Vice President Kamala Harris on the presidential campaign ticket.

The fundraiser will take place at The Newbury Boston hotel, featuring a reception following a dinner hosted by prominent event planner Bryan Rafanelli and former U.S. Ambassador to Spain, Alan Solomont. Tickets for this exclusive event started at $25,000, with some donations reaching up to $100,000. As of Tuesday evening, the fundraiser had already raised over $1 million in support of the campaign.

Local Leaders Show Support

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, a delegate at the upcoming Democratic National Convention, confirmed her attendance at the fundraiser and expressed her admiration for Walz, calling him an “incredibly warm, dedicated leader” with a wealth of experience.

“I’m thrilled that this is the ticket in front of us and eager and excited to get to the DNC convention and make it official,” Wu shared in a Radio Boston interview.

Forays Across the Country

This Boston event is part of a broader three-day fundraising initiative that Walz will lead nationwide. On Tuesday, he made his initial solo campaign appearances at two events in California and has events scheduled in Denver, Newport, Rhode Island, and Southampton, New York.

These appearances are strategically placed in Democratic-supportive areas to strengthen fundraising efforts and allow Walz to connect with party donors across the country.

Significance of Massachusetts in Campaigns

Walz’s visit further emphasizes the importance of Massachusetts as a hub for Democratic fundraising activities. His recent efforts in Los Angeles to engage with the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, the largest public service employees’ union, spotlight his campaign commitments.

At the L.A. fundraiser, Walz touted his teachers union membership, shared his military background, and critiqued former President Donald Trump and Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio, underlining key campaign themes.

Upcoming Rhode Island Event

The Rhode Island campaign event scheduled for Thursday will be backed by several state-level Democrats, including Governor Dan McKee and Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse, as the Harris-Walz ticket continues to build momentum.
