Kamala Harris’s contemporary, 60-year-old Tim Walz, has become her vice presidential candidate. He is a Democrat with 20 years of political experience. He has been governor of Minnesota for five years. Before that, he served in the House of Representatives for 12 years.
“I’m not trying to prove anything. I’m just who I am and I show it,” said Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.
He is described as an ordinary man, he is able to reach voters
Walz is known for his pointed comebacks. He recently called Trump simply weird, a remark that was picked up by Kamala Harris’ campaign.
– Where is this man’s plan? He doesn’t have one. Just weird ideas. I’ll stick to that. People can feel it. Why can’t this man laugh with people but laughs at other people? – asked Tim Walz.
His supporters describe him as an “ordinary man” because he knows how to reach voters. His 20 years of experience as a geography teacher certainly helps him in this respect.
– If we want to win in November, we must continue to implement the solutions we have seen from this administration, such as investing in children, taking climate change seriously and working in partnership with individual states – says Tim Walz.
Walz was chosen by the left wing of the Democratic Party. In Minnesota, the politician passed laws restricting gun ownership, protecting abortion rights, but also introduced free meals for students in schools.
Walz is also a proponent of reproductive rights, having tried for years to have a child. Last month, Walz opened up about the fertility issues his wife of three decades, Gwen, has faced.
“My oldest daughter’s name is Nadzieja. That’s because my wife and I tried for 7 years to have a child. We needed the in vitro method, which is what the Republicans want to ban. These people are against freedom,” we read in a fragment of Tim Walz’s statement on CNN.

Walz’s small-town Midwestern credentials and 24-year service in the National Guard may appeal to independent and conservative voters.
– It says a lot about issues that are close to the hearts of young voters, but also of their parents – says Professor Małgorzata Zachara-Szymańska from the Institute of American Studies and Polish Diaspora at the Jagiellonian University.
Donald Trump’s campaign has already responded to the selection of Kamala Harris. According to Republicans, Walz is a dangerous and incompetent liberal.
