Minnesota Governor Tim Walz formally accepted the nomination for vice president of the United States on the third night of the Democratic National Convention which concludes today in Chicago.

“It is the honor of my life to accept your nomination for vice president of the United States,” Walz said last night to standing ovations from the audience. He also thanked Vice President Kamala Harris for inviting him to be part of the duo that will face Republican Donald Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, in November.

Walz spoke about government goals, his family, “which is my whole world,” he said; he criticized the conservatives’ 2025 plan and promised to work as hard as possible for the American people.

Instead of banning books in schools, let’s ban hunger in students, said the former teacher and congressman.

The acceptance speech was the final item on the agenda of a long night that saw former President William Clinton, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Cory Booker, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg take the stage.

Clinton urged those in attendance to consider who will be working for them in the White House, warning that in “2024, it seems to me we have a pretty clear choice. Kamala Harris, for the people. And the other guy (Trump), who has proven, even more than the first time, that it’s all about me, me, me.”

Also parading across the stage were well-known media personality Oprah Winfrey, who exclaimed: “Let’s elect Kamala Harris!”; Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries; and Republicans who decided to vote for the vice president to ensure that Trump never returns to the White House.

A special moment was provided last night by legendary singer and songwriter Stevie Wonder, who before performing his hit song “Higher Ground” spoke about democracy and asked voters to “choose joy over anger.”

The vice president on Tuesday accepted her official nomination as the party’s candidate for the upcoming elections via video from a rally where she was participating alongside Walz, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

“The delegates of the Democratic National Convention have nominated Tim Walz and me to be the next Vice President and President of the United States of America. I thank you all for believing in what we can do together. We are deeply honored to be your nominees,” he said.

Harris will be in charge of the closing speech at the event, in which she will formally confirm her candidacy. By being nominated by the Democratic Party, the former prosecutor and senator became the first woman of African-American and Indian descent to receive such a designation from one of the two political organizations that compete for the White House every four years.
