TIM: two thirds of families in the white areas reached by the ultra-broadband

TIM announced that he has covered in about 5 months over 2000 municipalities, many of which in the so-called “white areas”, ie without infrastructures and in which private individuals did not intend to invest in the past because they were not very profitable. “Thanks to this strong infrastructural push, sustained with a view to giving a concrete response to the growing needs for connectivity mainly in rural areas or with low population density of the country, about two thirds (65%) of households residing in these areas and using the fixed network are now reached by super-fast connections“.

The company has intensified its network cabling and upgrading program since the beginning of March, with work continuing during the lockdown to ensure the smooth running of activities such as smart working and online education, as well as managing peaks in traffic that occurred at that stage.

TIM’s optical fiber now covers over 86% of households and you aim for “overcoming the digital divide by 2021“. The company announces that in the coming months it will continue to give strong impetus to its cabling programs, bringing fiber to 90% of households nationwide by December. In particular, the municipalities that will be reached by the plan will be over 5,000, many of them in the “white areas”, ie 74% of the families residing in those areas and using the fixed network.

The infrastructural interventions implemented from March to today have allowed approximately 3 million citizens and businesses hitherto excluded from the high-speed Internet to access ultra-broadband services up to 200 Mbps made available by the fiber optic network in FTTCab technology.

“It was an intense program of activations that has now involved about 11,000 road closets from north to south of the peninsula and which will be extended by the end of the year to over 15,000 cabinets “, explains TIM.” To ensure ultra-broadband connections in the municipalities not yet reached by fiber, we also confirm our commitment to the diffusion of ultrabroadband connections thanks to FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) technology, which uses a hybrid system of wired and wireless connections to offer ultra-broadband connectivity services “.
