He rarely comes to cook, for example in his restaurant “Bullerei”. No wonder: Between the talk show appearance and the “Kitchen Impossible” duel, Tim Mälzer is so omnipresent on German television that one wonders whether his day really only has 24 hours. Business-minded – one would think. But is the 50-year-old really a good businessman?

“No!”, Mälzer answered resolutely to this question in a new episode of the “Pierre M. Krause Show” produced by SWR (available on YouTube). “I’m very fortunate that I can just do things and earn money in the process,” he explains to host Pierre M. Krause his principle of success. Conversely, he would do nothing for the sole purpose of making money. That is not what drives him.
TV chef asks, “What are the real needs?”
Once a year, Mälzer explains to his companion while strolling through downtown Hamburg, he sits down with his family and questions: “What are the real needs?” When asked by Pierre M. Krause about his standard of living, the TV chef replies: “Four-room apartment, one car, manageable vacation.” Mälzer continues: “My definition of luxury is being able to pay my bills.”

In the world of cooking, Mälzer describes himself as “very wealthy”
However, the restaurateur leaves that to chance to a certain extent. Measured against the standard in his “World of Cooking”, Mälzer described himself as “very wealthy”. However, he is also “a player who tries to implement all his ideas”. As an example, he cited a restaurant project in New York that has now ended and has apparently got out of hand.

According to his own information, the man from Hamburg has spent huge sums on architects, lawyers and a suitable network. To do this, he rented an apartment in the US metropolis – and then forgot about it: “I paid rent for a year and a half and no longer knew that I had rented the thing.” Krause puzzled: “You don’t check your account balance that often?” Mälzer: “Consistently not at all. What for? If it’s sh … someone will let me know.”

He gave up the New York restaurant before it opened because the running costs had exploded. Failure would have endangered his existence. “I was scared.” Nevertheless, there is one thing he cannot blame himself for in life: “Oh, you should have done it!” Whatever comes into Mälzer’s head is also implemented.
Another Mälzer cliché that was verified in the show: He celebrates the festivals as they come. “Where did you celebrate your 50th birthday?” Asks Pierre M. Krause in the kitchen area of the “Bullerei” restaurant. “Right here,” comes the answer promptly. “If I can believe the stories …”
“I always celebrate my birthday very intensely”
“Your reputation precedes you, and it’s all true,” Krause Mälzer’s excessive party behavior confirms with a smile from his own eyes. “But it’s not Asian, you just enjoy enjoying yourself.” Mälzer confirms this: “I always celebrate my birthday very intensely. And also with a lot of people. I don’t have to know them all. I think like the Queen of England: I don’t care who cheers me on my birthday.”
