Tim Cook Opens Up About Apple’s Augmented Reality Headset

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – It seems that Apple will soon have an Augmented Reality (AR) headset. The signs were heard from CEO Tim Cook’s answer in an interview recently.

To China Daily USA, Tim Cook said he was always passionate about the technology. He explained about the key factors of AR success in the consumer market.

“I’m very passionate about AR as you probably know. And the important thing for any technology, including AR is to put humanity at the center,” he explained, quoted by CNBC International, Friday (24/6/2022).

Apple’s current work focuses on AR apps on the iPhone and iPad. But he added that his company was still in the early stages of developing the technology.

“But I think we’re still in the early stages of how this technology will develop. I couldn’t ‘but get excited about the opportunities we’ve seen in this sector and stay tuned and you’ll see what we have to offer,” said Tim Cook.

The news that Apple is working on the device has been heard since last May. Bloomberg reports the company is showing the AR/VR headset to the board and plans to announce it at the end of last year launching it next year.

In the same report, Apple is said to be planning to sell its own headset by 2023.

If true, then Apple is preparing to die behind several companies that claim to focus on the virtual world. For example, Facebook changed its name to Meta and signaled its focus to shift to Metaverse. There is also Microsoft which has introduced Hololens AR glasses in 2016.
