Tim Cook and Tim Sweeney are among potential witnesses to the Apple / Epic trial

The list of witnesses Apple is proposing in its upcoming trial against game maker Epic reads as to who are the two executives from the two companies. The protracted battle may be the defining moment in mobile app payments.

The two sides quarreled when the Fortnite maker was fired App Store in August Last year after adding an in-game payment system designed to bypass Apple systems – along with chunks of Apple’s personal files.

Epic accuses Apple of monopolistic practices regarding mobile payments. Meanwhile, Apple argued that Epic had violated the App Store agreement to increase its revenue.

The document presented by the hardware giant last night, included the CEO from the Android aspect. For Apple, the list includes CEO Tim Cook, Executive Vice President of Software Engineering Craig Federighi, and Apple Fellow Phil Schiller. On Team Epic, this is Tim Sweeney and VP Mark Rein. Executives from Microsoft, Facebook, and NVIDIA are also included, for a good measure.

In a statement sent to TechCrunch, Apple noted,

Our senior executives would like to share with the court about the tremendous positive impact the App Store has had on innovation, economies around the world and the customer experience over the past 12 years. We are sure that this case will prove that Epic deliberately broke its agreement only to increase its revenue, which led to it being removed from the App Store. By doing this, Epic circumvents app store security features in a way that will reduce competition and put consumer privacy and data security at enormous risk.

The trial is expected to start on May 3. We’ve reached out to Epic for additional comments.
