Tim Burton is in talks about directing a new live action series around The Addams Family. The series will be the first major television project of the Edward Scissorhandsdirector, reports Variety Thursday.
Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, who previously collaborated on Into the Badlands, are going to write the story of the new series. There is no television channel connected to the project yet, but according to the entertainment site, that should not be a problem given Burton’s cooperation.
The Addams Family is about a fictional household consisting of the couple Gomez and Morticia, the torturous daughter Wednesday, the slightly mentally disabled Pugsley, their masochistic uncle Fester, the Frankenstein-like butler Lurch, the walking hand Thing and the very hairy cousin Itt.
The family was invented by Charles Addams in the 1930s and featured as a comic in the magazine New Yorker printed until Addams died in 1988.
The Addams Family was also central to various television series and cinema films between the sixties and the end of the nineties. The best known is the series that ran from 1964 to 1966. And the 1991 film (pictured), directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, did well in theaters. Last year an animation film was released with voices by Charlize Theron, among others.
