Tile will fight the misuse of tracking charms with the threat of a $1 million fine

Apple’s AirTag tracking charm was released almost two years ago and, along with Tile, brought the product line into the spotlight. But along with their popularity have come concerns that these devices are being used to track people, which every company is grappling with in its own way.

Tile has announced a new solution that will make tracking charms useful against theft while discouraging various stalkers from using them. Users who identify themselves with a US-issued ID card and agree to various security rules will be able to turn on a new anti-theft mode. This will unlock the charms from the Tile Scan and Secure networks.

Tile will still retain the option to hand over information to the police if necessary, but users won’t have to worry about that if there’s no unauthorized activity. In addition, violations of the rules can be fined up to $1 million, as an additional motivation to use the Tile charm appropriately.

It can be seen that the company wants to bring back the popularity of its product, also pointing out that the media focuses too much on those rare cases when charms are actually used for criminal purposes. Which damages the image of companies and the useful use of equipment in everyday life.
