Tile: Despite promises, Apple hasn’t modified iOS for location tracking – Tablets and Phones – News

Yes, it really works that well.

I have a key organizer with a built-in Tile, a Tile for my laptop bag, a Tile for my car key and a flat one in my wallet. I sometimes let them swing around the house. Retrieving is now very easy. But a Tile is also useful, for example, to sit on the plane and to know that your suitcase is nearby, so it is in the hold. That gives a very rested feeling when you are traveling.

Tiles communicate with every phone nearby that has the tile app installed. They just let them know that they are there. No more. If you’ve lost something that has a Tile on it, you can see where you last saw it (with your phone) and where it was last seen by someone else (its phone). Thus, you can hunt for your Tile, and the item it is attached to. If you are nearby you can let him play a sound.

And indeed, since iOS13, my iPhone often asks me if I want to allow various apps to track my location. That’s well meant by Apple, but for Tile and some other apps, I would like the YES AND DON’T ASK ME ANYMORE option. I understand that Tile is annoyed by this. There will be enough users who accidentally click on NO and then no longer realize that Tile is not working as well.

I personally hope that Apple will address this in iOS14, but also that Apple App makers oblige that they can only follow you to make their app work better for you. And that does not mean that they can store, give away or sell your locations for a long time.
