The police evacuated Tilburg station because of a backpack left on the platform. A sniffer dog is on its way to examine the bag. Train traffic to and from Tilburg has been at a standstill since 4:30 p.m.
The police do not yet know who owns the bag. The backpack was discovered around 4:20 p.m. Shortly before, a train to Breda had left. The police say that an announcement was made on that train to see if anyone had lost a bag.
The platforms and shops at the station have been evacuated for safety reasons. The police need an explosives dog for the investigation. The animal must come from Zeeland.
The police do not know how long it will take before the police dog arrives. “That can take half an hour, but also 45 minutes,” the spokesperson explains. “Someone has called and is now coming from Zeeland to Tilburg with all the bells and whistles and siren.”
It is also unclear when the investigation will be completed and train traffic can start. The force says it finds it “very annoying” for travelers who experience significant delays due to the bag being left behind. “But we have to follow the protocol and eliminate the danger.”
