44-year-old Churendi C. has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for the murder of Tilburg rapper Boechi. Co-suspect Chris Z. (24) was sentenced to almost 20 years in prison.
Ruchendell Bonifacio Windster, as the rapper is really called, was shot dead in December in Willemstad, the capital of Curaçao. He was standing at a food cart after a performance when he was shot several times. Before the shooting, he was followed by a white car for hours.
“There is nothing to indicate that the shooting resulted from a sudden outburst of anger or a sudden, violent temper. The suspects planned this and are therefore guilty of murder,” the officer said.
A reason for the murder did not become clear during the hearing, reports said Broadcasting Brabant . “But whatever the reason, others are suffering because of the decisions you have made,” Boechi’s widow Niandy Windster-Losiabaar said in court.
On behalf of Boechi’s widow, the Public Prosecution Service demanded compensation of 50,000 Antillean guilders (approximately 25,000 euros) for Boechi’s family. Of this, 30,000 was awarded for material damage.
Grave destroyed
A memorial service was held for the rapper in the Willem II stadium. Hundreds of people said goodbye to him there. His death was also commemorated in Curaçao.
Shortly after the funeral, Windster’s grave in Tilburg was partly destroyed. The relatives believe that this was intentional, but it is not clear why.
The rapper had Antillean roots and made music in Papiamentu. His music is especially popular on YouTube, where his video clips have been viewed millions of times.
