There will be no carnival at all in Tilburg next year. The organization of the carnival in Kruikenstad says it has thought about alternatives for a long time, but is now canceling everything. There is also no Prince or Council of Eleven presented. The health of the carnival Tilburgers and others cannot be guaranteed, according to the organization.
“It is not feasible”, says Patrick Dewez, chairman of the Carnival Foundation Tilburg against Omroep Brabant. “Images of carnival would go all over the world, then everyone would look again at Tilburg with a crooked eye.”
Last month there was national fuss about a party in Tilburg, where hundreds of supporters of football club Willem II watched a match together on a big screen. In doing so, they kept no distance from each other. Mayor Weterings decided not to ban that meeting, for fear that the supporters would meet somewhere else.
Previously, events around carnival in Tilburg such as the parade and Kruikenstad in Koor were canceled. Tilburg is the first large Dutch city where all activities related to carnival are now canceled. In other cities, carnival foundations are still looking for alternatives.
