Til Schweiger in an interview: “I can look in the mirror in the morning”

How does the comedy differ from your previous films? And at the same time, is there something “typical of Schweiger” that is now recurring?

Til Schweiger: How does it stand out? Maybe by Michael Maertens simply stealing the show? It was great to play with him. I think it’s a typical Til Schweiger film. He is very funny, but also very emotional. In this respect it doesn’t really stand out from my oeuvre. I’ve often heard that people can immediately recognize a film of mine, even if I haven’t walked through the picture yet. The pictures, the music, the equipment, the great cast and so on. And there is something typical of Schweiger in all my films.

My films, no matter the genre, revolve around love and family, the two central themes that have preoccupied me since I was a teenager. Love in the family, but also love between two friends or girlfriends. My films are often about fears and illnesses, but they all have a reconciliatory, hopeful ending. In this film, too, the friends help each other rediscover their lives.
