Jul 1 (Reuters) – Short-form video app TikTok said on Thursday that it will introduce an option over the next several weeks to allow users of its platform to create longer videos of up to three minutes.
TikTok, which allows users to record short videos for mobile devices that can be up to 60 seconds long and add special effects such as soundtracks pulled from a music library, has become very popular with teens in recent years.
“In the coming weeks, we will implement the option to create longer videos for everyone on TikTok, giving our global community the flexibility to shoot, upload and edit videos up to three minutes long directly within TikTok,” the social network said in a blog post.
The success of TikTok, owned by Chinese ByteDance, also led many social media companies to add short video services to their platforms, with Facebook Inc’s Instagram releasing short video clips, as well as Snap Inc’s Snapchat featuring “Spotlight “last November.
