TikTok sues Trump over US ban

In a blog post, TikTok said he strongly disagreed with the White House’s position that the company poses a threat to the national security of United States, claiming that she had taken extraordinary measures to protect the privacy and security of US TikTok users’ data.

Owner of popular video-sharing app ByteDance attacks, along with US President TikTok Donald Trump in court on Monday for his decree banning transactions in the United States with TikTok. This legal response was announced this weekend.

Not “lightly”

The group added that the US administration ignored its considerable efforts to address his concerns and accused Donald Trump of politicizing the conflict by calling for a ban on TikTok, in an executive order signed on August 6.

We do not take lawsuits against the US government lightly. But with the executive order that threatens to ban our American operations […] we just don’t have a choice, TikTok reported, confirming Reuters information released on Saturday.

In front of Los Angeles Federal Court

TikTok and its parent company ByteDance are suing Donald Trump, the US Department of Commerce and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in federal court in Los Angeles, court documents show.

The Justice Department was not available to comment on this information.

Threat to national security, Trump says

Donald Trump has been claiming for several weeks that the video app poses a threat to national security and that it could share information about its users with the Chinese government, marking a further escalation of tensions between Washington and Beijing.

Donald Trump has issued two executive orders prohibiting US companies from any transaction with Chinese groups ByteDance and Tencent, which owns the WeChat messaging app.

The US president issued a presidential decree on August 14 giving ByteDance 90 days to cede TikTok’s activities to the United States, or else ban them.
