The dance “The Renegade” was a hit with short TikTok videos on the app. It can now be found in the form of an Emote in the paid store of “Fortnite”. This should do the business of the game publisher Epic Games and the American teenager Jalaiah Harmon. As noted by site The Verge, the author of the dance certainly receives a fine commission. The announcement of the launch of the Emote on Twitter with the mention of its creator is indeed unprecedented on the part of Epic Games.

The publisher of the hit game had so far been rather pinned for having resumed popular dances of pop culture without asking anyone to account. He has been the subject of copyright infringement lawsuits for having used similar content without authorization. It is only since January that Epic Games has revised its strategy with in particular the launch of a dance competition on TikTok with license fees. The publisher has also transformed the dance moves of popular streamers, including star Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, who got his own skin, Emote and other in-game items.

For the record, Emotes are simply aesthetic and do not confer any advantage for progression in the game.
