TikTok Set to Launch Gaming Tab on Its App – Financial Times Report

The popular video-sharing app is getting into games.

These days, everyone seems out of the game, but TikTok wants in on it.

According to a new report from the Financial Times(opens in a new tab), TikTok is set to launch a gaming tab on its app, allowing users to play mobile games. These games will contain ads and users will be able to pay for additional content, according to the report.

TikTok began testing games in Vietnam in May. The service’s moderators in Europe were tasked with testing the games before they were launched, the Financial Times said, citing two people with inside knowledge.

This could all be announced on November 2, when TikTok will host its “first global gaming event,” with the tagline “TikTok Made Me Play It.”(opens in a new tab)«

“The future of gaming is here, and it’s happening on TikTok. Leading publishers launch games on our platform as culturally relevant entertainment properties, build communities, and inspire wider entertainment audiences to discover and play their games,” reads a description on the event. website.

However, some of TikTok’s competitors haven’t had much luck with the games. Snapchat launched playable games in 2019 to announce it would be shutting down games in August(opens in a new tab)and Facebook shuts down its gaming platform on Friday, October 28. Netflix, which launched its gaming product last year, recently said it would double down and get into cloud gaming(opens in a new tab) as well as launch more games.
