TikTok Launches TikTok Music: A New Audio Streaming Service to Compete with Spotify and Deezer

We already knew that ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, wanted to expand on the internet through a new audio streaming service called TikTok Music to compete against Spotify, Deezer and other existing streaming platforms.

In this sense, today the announcement of the launch of TikTok Music took place, which will initially reach the territories of Brazil and Indonesia, although in exchange, in these territories they will close the other existing transmission platform, called Resso, which points to the 5th of September as the day this service closes its doors.

At the moment it is not known what will happen to Resso in India, where it is also present, as watch from TechCrunch. In any case, TikTok Music will be a paid service, although it will offer a free trial month, which will be synchronized with the TikTok account itself.

It comes packed with plenty of possibilities.

In addition to discovering and downloading music tracks, for listening even without an internet connection, users may also be able to identify songs, like in Shazam, access full versions of music tracks heard in viral TikTok videos. , and even import playlists they already had on other platforms.

There will be no shortage of social functions either, allowing you to create collaborative lists with friends, make comments and connect with other users with similar musical interests. And it is that TikTok Music will focus on musical themes, for which in recent months work has been done to have licenses from the main record companies.

Focused, for now, on music

What users will not find will be content related to podcasts and radio transmission, although the doors are not closed, since the trademark application made last year points to its possibility.

Regarding prices, the subscription will be priced at $3.49 per month in Brazil and $3.25 for iOS users in Indonesia, while Android users will pay $2.96 per month for the first year and then go to $3.25 per month.

According to Ole Obermann, TikTok’s global director of Music Business Development, in a statement:

We’re excited to introduce TikTok Music, a new kind of service that combines the power of music discovery on TikTok with a best-in-class streaming service. TikTok Music will make it easier for people in Indonesia and Brazil to save, download and share their favorite viral tracks from TikTok. We are excited about the opportunities that TikTok Music presents for both music fans and artists, and the great potential it has to generate significant value for the music industry.

Over time we will see if the new service lives up to the expectations of the users and if in the long run it has turned out to be a significant competition for the already existing streaming services or not.
