REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — TikTok launched a feature to make it easier for users to save viral songs to the application music like Spotify and Apple Music. The “Add to music app” feature will roll out in the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States (US) in the coming weeks.
This will allow users to save songs they find on video platforms directly to the music streaming app of their choice.
Reported Independent, Wednesday (15/10/2023), viral trending videos have helped popularize songs such as the dance song “Padam Padam” by Kylie Minogue, and the collaboration of Raye, Casso, and D-Block Europe on the single “Prada”.
“TikTok is already the world’s most powerful platform for music discovery and promotion, helping artists connect with our global community to drive engagement with their music,” said Global Head of Music Business Development TikTok Be Obermann.
This new feature creates a direct link between music discovery and consumption resulting in greater value for artists and rights holders. A button that says “Add song” next to the track name at the bottom of the TikTok video.
In the feed, users will be able to save songs to default playlists, including the “TikTok Songs” playlist on Amazon Music or the “Liked songs” playlist on Spotify.
This feature will begin testing in additional markets soon. Last month, TikTok confirmed its first data center in Europe as part of its ongoing response to data privacy concerns surrounding the app’s links to China. The center in Dublin is the first of three in Europe to be built and will house data from TikTok users across the region.
The UK government earlier this year banned TikTok, owned by Chinese company ByteDance, from being used on ministers’ office phones following a security review.
