TikTok is testing ‘Clear Mode’ that drops buttons

clear mode

TikTok is testing a new feature. Clear Mode lets users scroll through content without buttons interfering with the experience.

Admittedly, it does have something: clearing your screen of buttons and other elements like usernames, captions and audio information while watching. The experimental TikTok feature was spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarre. TikTok then left TechCrunch know that a Clear Mode is effectively being tested.

Publisher ByteDance has not said when the feature will be available to a wider audience. Of course, it could just as well be that TikTok decides not to roll out the experimental feature and puts it back on the fridge. That in turn depends on the feedback they collect from the test users. The (American) test audience of the Clear Mode can activate the function with a so-called ‘long-press’ on the screen, after which they can select the feature.

Clear Mode for ease of use

Specifically, creators can take advantage of Clear Mode, for example, because they don’t have to re-upload clips if someone wants to take screenshots of them. Those at home on TikTok will often see users posting the ‘crop’ comment on videos. They do this when a button or other screen element ‘gets in the way’ of the images they want to share.

TikTok has been testing various features in recent months that can make the life of TikTok’ers easier. For example, there was a dislike button tested to give users more control and experimented ByteDance with in-app-games.
