TikTok is in, Facebook is out. Give up social media? That would be tough for every second teenager in the US

TikTok is in, Facebook is out.

This is the conclusion of a study that asked American teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17 about their social media consumption.

The leader is clearly YouTube. Around 95% of respondents said they used the video platform.

TikTok comes in second place (67%), followed by Instagram (62%) and Snapchat (59%) – two platforms that have gained many users in recent years.

Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook is the big loser. In the last 7-8 years, the platform has lost 39% of all teenagers as consumers. This puts her in fifth place.

The concept of TikTok is to post short videos in phone portrait format. The special: An algorithm determines which videos are displayed on the start page.

Videos from friends or acquaintances only have a limited influence on the feed.

Within a very short time, the system recognizes which content the user likes and adapts the video suggestions in a personalized way.

The «One video is still possible» effect means that the user – without realizing it – spends more time on the app than actually planned.

So how about putting the cell phone away for a while? Stop using social media?

More than half of the teenagers surveyed said they found this difficult.

Nobody wants to do without TikTokers jumping around and silly memes.
