TikTok download ban postponed after deal with software giant Oracle

President Trump agrees to a deal between software company Oracle, supermarket chain Walmart and TikTok. As a result, the imminent download ban of the video app, which would take effect at midnight, has been postponed until September 27.

The companies are now given a week to finalize the deal, much to TikTok’s delight. “We are pleased that the deal will address the security concerns of the US government,” said a spokesman for the app, which is now owned by Chinese company ByteDance.

As part of the deal, Oracle will take care of the US user data. That was a demand from President Trump. He feared that the Chinese government could access the data of American TikTok users, as long as it is not in the hands of a party in the US. The app itself has always contradicted this.

Trump’s blessing

“I gave the deal my blessing,” Trump said last night. ByteDance has previously said it also needs permission from the Chinese government.

The intention is that the American branch of TikTok will be transferred to a new company. According to Trump, the headquarters of TikTok Global, as the company will be called in the US, will be in Texas. The group would employ 25,000 people and contribute $ 5 billion to education in America. ByteDance says it knows nothing about that donation,

TikTok is very popular among young people. Short films can be made with the app. Especially movies of dances are doing very well.
