TikTok Competes With Twitch, Tests Live Streaming Game Features

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

TikTok reportedly currently testing the latest application that can be used live streaming games. TikTok Live Studio will later compete with the very popular Twitch.

This desktop-developed TikTok Live Studio allows users to broadcast games and other desktop applications live.

TikTok said to TechCrunch that this app is only available in the Western market for a few thousand users.

TikTok Live Studio is said to be able to bring an update to TikTok’s live streaming strategy which was originally only on mobile devices to become more widespread.

TikTok users can expand and enter the realm of game streaming to compete with a number of incumbents such as Twitch, YouTube Gaming, and Facebook Gaming.

According to Zach Bussey, who shared a screenshot of TikTok Live Studio on Twitter, the app is currently in a barebones state.

The app reportedly supports streaming in both landscape and portrait modes, and can pull in footage from games, individual programs, mobile devices, and cameras.

According to Tech Crunch, once downloaded to a computer, the program allows users to log in with their TikTok account and stream directly to TikTok Live.

Within the program, users can communicate with viewers via the chat feature, and users can broadcast content from computers, mobile phones or game consoles.

Previously, users could live stream from desktop devices to TikTok by using third-party applications such as Streamlabs. However, this application is said to have many limitations.

There are also a number of tutorials that provide information on live streaming with third parties like Loola.tv as a way to connect TikTok with streaming programs like OBS.

This method is also called imperfect, and the Loola.tv help page says that “TikTok streaming is currently disabled for most users” in July this year.

Reported from The Verge, there is no confirmation from TikTok regarding wider testing for Live Studio. But if the app were widely available, it would bring more options to the world of live streaming.
