“TikTok is a Chinese backdoor in American lives. It threatens our children’s privacy as well as their mental health. I will now introduce legislation to ban it across the country,” he said.
Hawley did not specify when he intends to publish the bill of his own authorship and how he sees the mechanism for banning the mobile app and social network in the United States.
TikTok managed to comment on the senator’s proposal. The company said in a statement that Hawley took the wrong approach.
“Senator Hawley’s call for a complete ban on TikTok takes a step-by-step approach to national security. We hope that he will focus his efforts on a comprehensive solution to existing problems, and not pretend that banning one service will solve any of the problems that worry him, or make Americans are safer,” the company’s press service said.
