Tiken Jah Fakoly Returns to Toulouse with Acoustic Concert at Halle aux Grains – Sold Out Show This Saturday, April 6!

the essential The great Tiken Jah Fakoly returns to Toulouse this Saturday April 6 and he will be sold out in a Halle aux grains where he will revisit his greatest songs acoustically. Emotions guaranteed.

In Africa, Europe, Canada, Tiken Jah Fakoly makes his concerts moments of intense communion and sharing. No preaching, but powerful and captivating music carried by generous messages of peace, love and resistance. This Saturday, April 6, in the intimate and warm setting of the Halle aux Grains, “Tiken” will revisit its superb repertoire. Encounter.

Why did you choose this acoustic configuration?

I wanted to return to the sources of my music, surrounded by musician friends who play traditional West African instruments. These songs, some of which have worked well and are known to the public, will thus have a second life, so to speak. My texts too, which were written at a certain time, it will be interesting to compare them to today’s world.

In fact, aren’t you sometimes discouraged to see that texts denouncing the evils of the world still retain all their relevance 20 years later?

I understand your question and I will say that they kept the same power. In history, many people have led strong and courageous struggles but, unfortunately, have not seen things change. They left before but sowed the seeds of revolt and others continued their fights. I have a vision, in which there is no room for discouragement.

Your relationship with France is unique: you are admired, celebrated there…

I always wanted to invite French artists to my shows to reinforce the messages – political and artistic – that I wanted to convey. My friend Bernard Lavilliers has worked hard to make the French feel engaged with reggae; music that Serge Gainsbourg greatly helped to popularize.

“A concert = a school”

I really like a boy like – M-, who participated in my project “A concert = a school”: where we play, we create a school. Only school can awaken Africa, which is still, for certain countries, learning democracy. Others are better, and you can imagine my joy when my country, Ivory Coast, won the African Cup of Nations, one of the most beautiful in history…

Does this acoustic tour, which will pass through the Halle aux Grains, indicate a new direction, more peaceful, meditative?

This will be new for us, that’s obvious. I, who have been used to jumping everywhere for 20 years, will have to find another way of singing, of dancing, of miming perhaps, so that the spectator can reach out to my voice. On this record, the voice is in power. It is above nationalities, in meaning. I wanted whoever listens to the record to say: “Wow! I knew the text, now I understand the text.”

Saturday April 6 at 8 p.m. at the Halle aux grains (1, place Dupuy) in Toulouse. Complete concert.
