Dominic Thiem did not have a good start to the 2021 tennis season. The Austrian player didn’t even make it to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open 2021 and lost in the first round of the Dubai Tennis Championship.
As a result, he lost a good number of points and is now fourth in the ATP rankings. In a recent interview, Dominic Thiem revealed the names of the athletes from whom he was most inspired.
Interestingly, on a list that consisted of his idol Roger Federer, Michael Jordan, Diego Maradona, and Rafael Nadal, there was a name he forgot to add. However, he later not only gave the icon’s name, but also admitted that she would be among his top 5 athletes of all time.
This athlete is none other than golf legend Tiger Woods. “Oops! Big mistake, I forgot Tiger Woods. Actually he is a candidate for the top 5. Yes, I’ve seen a lot of tournaments on television,” Thiem said in an interview.
Tiger Woods is arguably one of the greatest athletes of all time. The American legend has won 15 major professional golf championships and 82 PGA Tour events in his career.
Dominic Thiem on Tiger Woods: “He is one of the most successful golfers
Thiem went on to say that Woods is one of the most successful golfers in the history of the sport.
He also stressed that he is one of the highest paid athletes in the world. “He’s one of the most successful golfers in the history of the sport. He’s one of the highest-paid athletes in the world,” added the 2020 US Open winner.
Although Dominic Thiem won’t play at the Miami Open 2021, he hopes to get back on the pitch soon. A clay court season is just around the corner, and Thiem will certainly want to outdo the others there. Can Dominic Thiem win a Grand Slam in 2021? Photo credit: Waw Sports
