Tiger Woods hosts the exclusive signature competition “The Genesis Invitational” in California, which began yesterday. It was not a successful return for the legend (72 strokes, +1) who afterwards complained about his back.
– My back cramped. “It’s been cramping the last three holes and it just locked on me,” he said after yesterday’s round at Riviera Country Club.
During Friday, Woods was back, but he didn’t last long. At the seventh hole, the 48-year-old suddenly stopped the competition and left the course in a golf cart. In the television footage, Woods looked visibly moved.
“Tournament host Tiger Woods has withdrawn from The Genesis Invitational due to illness,” the PGA Tour writes on its official X account.
It was later reported that the reason for the suspension was that Woods had stomach problems. This was the icon’s first real competition since the Masters last April – when he also withdrew.
The competition is ongoing.
