She recently celebrated her 21st birthday. But barely three days later, Walloon Tifany Lieffring died unexpectedly from the effects of the corona virus. Her parents now warn her peers and urge them to be careful: “The virus doesn’t just affect older people.”

Tiffany combined school with work. She worked three days a week in hostel La Briqueterie in Arlon. She was looking forward to her birthday on March 20, but it didn’t turn out the way she expected it to.
“She actually wanted to see her three best friends, but because of the corona pandemic, she decided it was better to stay at home,” her mother Dominique told the French-language news website SudInfo. “But for a young girl, 21 is an important age. That’s why we turned it into an evening with pizzas and pasta, to celebrate a bit after all. ”
Not hungry
But that night Tifany refused to eat anymore. Nothing to panic about right away, her parents thought. It may happen that she was not hungry. “But the next day the symptoms became clear,” said the mother. “On Sunday evening she suddenly lost her sense of smell and her taste.”
The parents quickly called their doctor, who arranged an appointment to take a corona test. That happened in the hospital of Arlon. But once back home, Tifany’s symptoms got worse and her father called the lab. What turned out? The test was not performed correctly and gave no result. Tifany immediately got a new appointment for a corona test, but she did not meet that appointment.
The 21-year-old’s health deteriorated rapidly: breathing became increasingly difficult. “My husband was about to take her to the emergency room. But when she got up from the couch, she collapsed. ”
Cardiac arrest
Although the ambulance was quickly on the spot, help could no longer help. Tifany died minutes after arriving at the hospital in Arlon. She suffered a pulmonary embolism and cardiac arrest. “We never imagined losing our daughter in such circumstances,” said the parents.
Still, Tifany’s parents insist that no one is responsible for their daughter’s death. “Everyone has done their best,” said father Yvon. “But if there is one thing we can remember from the situation, it is that the virus does not only affect older people,” added Mother Dominique. “My daughter was 21 years old. She didn’t smoke, she didn’t drink alcohol, she didn’t take drugs. She hasn’t seen her friends since September and followed the measures very closely. ”
According to the doctors, Tifany had contracted a severe version of the virus. She will be remembered as a happy young woman who was always available to her friends and family.
