TIE: Gabon’s report is expected in July 2024 – AGP

Libreville, May 1, 2024 (AGP) – The Prime Minister, Raymond Ndong Sima, had a working session on April 29, with all the administrations involved in the important subject that sets foreign investments (mines , oil and hydrocarbons, NGOs, Economy and Budget) where it was a question of taking into account Gabon’s position regarding the EITI, indicates a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office received by the AGP.

“It emerges from this meeting that Gabon’s report is expected for the month of July 2024 and that in cash only 87% of the activities according to income from our extractive industries are available as – already,” reveals the press release.

“Everybody has to make an effort to have everything ready before the expected date. We have made international commitments, this must stick,” said Raymond Ndong Sima

Eighteen months after its new membership in the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), Gabon has still not published the report authorizing the publication of its reports according to EITI standards. However, after it was suspended in 2013 and after returning in October 2021, the country promised to fulfill this requirement, that is to publish the report.

After being deregistered in February 2013, a number of activities, including reflection workshops and return decisions, were carried out from 2014 to 2020 without review. It was in October 2021 that Gabon joined the EITI again, ranking 56th country worldwide and 27th in Africa.

The next two steps for Gabon are now to produce the EITI report. The start of the first verification must be done no later than July 1, 2024.

The purpose of the EITI is to ensure that the principles and measures set out within the framework of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative are implemented and monitored. Therefore, it is primarily responsible for organizing the collection and publication of data from the extractive industries, according to the provisions of the texts involved.
