Voltaire It is a show with dramaturgy of Juan Mayorga placeholder image and address of Ernesto Caballero produced by Teatro Urgente in residence with the Teatro Quique San Francisco. It is a conversation between two masters of the scene that revolves around the theme of tolerance and the intolerable. It is the first time that Mayorga and Caballero meet again in a show after the success of Darwin’s Turtle, this time they are joined by the need to open a theatrical dialogue that both consider urgent and to do so on a stage devoid of artifice in which the stage game privileges the essential: the words, the actors and the audience.
About the play: Half the theater
Due to its substance and its form, Teatro Urgente, the scenic project promoted by Ernesto Caballero and Karina Garantiv, is, in my opinion, one of the most stimulating that has emerged in recent years in the city of Madrid. It was an honor for me that they summoned me when they began to imagine it, and it is now a joy that they bring this Voltaire to the stage, within that magnetic field.
It is a work assembled from three texts from my Theater for minutes. Ernesto and Karina noticed one of them, which led me to suggest that they attend to the other two. After agreeing on the interest that the reunion of these pieces could have – each of which, I think, re-signifies the others -, I always wrote and rewrote in dialogue with them and very attentive to what the rehearsal room was doing for us. unveiling.
Voltaire said that the most useful books are those in which the reader puts half. I think that has a lot to do with what we propose to do in this show and in Teatro Urgente. I think that it is urgent to read Voltaire and, of course, that it is urgent to make a theater in which the spectators – who are not our mirror, but our other half – put a good part. At least half.
