Mexico City. The Federal Consumer Prosecutor’s Office (Profeco) and Ticketmaster, through an alternative dispute resolution mechanism, decided to end a Collective Action lawsuit, which benefits 434 consumers with the payment of 3.4 million pesos.
The lawsuit was initially filed by consumers who claimed the unilateral cancellation of the purchase of tickets for various entertainment, artistic, cultural and sporting events by the ticket office.
“With the actions considered in this agreement, the beneficiaries are compensated with a total amount that reaches more than 3.4 million pesos,” Profeco reported.
The body that protects consumer rights indicated that a part of the group of consumers that confirmed the impact were compensated for the full cost of the ticket plus service charges and a 20 percent bonus in accordance with the law.
The other party that was affected by the cancellation of events resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic was reimbursed only for the cost of the ticket, as it was a global health emergency, not attributable to the ticket offices.
He indicated that Ticketmaster designed and implemented a mobile application called “Ticketmaster MX App”, which aims to make it easier for consumers to purchase and use tickets safely.
The foregoing, with the purpose of avoiding falsification, duplicity, resale of tickets and any action or omission that could lead to third parties altering the tickets.
“This Collective Action is unprecedented in the entertainment service, since the largest company nationwide in the sale of show tickets chose to conciliate and agree in order to benefit its consumers, while investing in improving the entertainment service. marketing of tickets in order to provide security and legal certainty in consumer relations,” Profeco noted.
