Ticker for the Ski Flying World Championships: suspension and resignation: Slovenia quake in Planica

live

After his public criticism, the Slovenian federation first suspended Timi Zajc from the Ski Flying World Championships, then national coach Gorazd Bertoncelj resigns. All events in Planica can be found in our World Cup ticker.

Less than 24 hours after his public criticism of national coach Gorazd Bertoncelj via Instagram the ski flying world championship in Planica ended prematurely for Timi Zajc. As the Slovenian association announced on Saturday morning, the 20-year-old will be suspended. Shortly thereafter, Bertoncelj resigned as head coach in Slovenia.

Zajc is not allowed to start in the two remaining rounds of the individual competition or the team competition on Sunday. The association even risks being excluded from the team decision, because with Peter Prevc and Ziga Jelar, the other Slovenian ski jumpers that the association had nominated for Planica were in action on Friday.

The Corona measures of the International Ski Federation (FIS) actually forbid the use of forerunners later in the competition because, in the opinion of the FIS, they have left the protected “bladder” of the athletes. The Slovenian association is now hoping for an exception.

In addition to Peter Prevc and Jelar, the Slovenians only have three athletes left: Domen Prevc, Anze Lanisek and Bor Pavlovcic, which would not be enough to participate in the team decision.
