Roma’s general director praises the Portuguese coach
With the market window closed, Tiago Pinto did the math and the result is positive. Roma’s general director gave a press conference to explain the club’s options, which left the Portuguese satisfied, starting with the hiring of José Mourinho.
“We brought the best coach in the world to Roma and we built a strong team,” said Tiago Pinto, surrendering to his compatriot: “I’m proud, happy and motivated to work with Mourinho every day. I’m 36 years old and have been following his career ever since. I was a child, even though I coached FC Porto and I am a Benfica fan. I try to take advantage of every day to learn more from him. We started working together before the season started. We evaluated the team and knew exactly what we were looking for.” Xhaka was the target for the midfield of the team from the transalpine capital, but the signing of the Swiss failed. “Arsenal didn’t want to sell,” admitted Tiago Pinto, who resolved Dzeko’s departure by hiring Abraham, but couldn’t find a solution for all the surpluses, such as the case of Nzonzi, who was in Benfica’s plans. “When we arrived, Roma had more than 60 signed players and it’s not easy to deal with that. We found clubs for more than 30.” The goal is simple: “It’s qualification for the Champions League.”
