Tiago Monteiro arrived in Portugal this Wednesday after having been hospitalized for five days in a Russian hospital, treating the bacterial pneumonia that kept him from the last test of the Touring Car World Cup (WTCR).
In a statement, the pilot’s press office informs that Tiago Monteiro “has been evolving positively to the treatments” during the five days he was hospitalized in a Russian hospital, a country where, on Sunday, in the city of Sochi, the last WTCR race took place.
“Thanks to the efforts of many people and entities, it was possible to ensure the repatriation of the Honda pilot to Portugal in a private medical plane that ensured the continuity of treatment during the flight, as well as ensuring the medical stability required in this type of illness and travel”, he details the note.
Arriving in Portugal, Tiago Monteiro “immediately went to a hospital in Porto, where he will continue the treatment started in Russia, but now close to home and family”.

“After five days in a hospital in Russia, whom I must thank for helping me to fight this disease, returning to Portugal was a huge relief. It was not an easy task, as my health condition did not allow me to travel on a flight normal commercial. The need for continued medical care complicated everything”, revealed the Portuguese pilot, mentioned in the note, before thanking all those who helped on the repatriation flight.
