Close to AS Roma a few days ago, Tiago Djalo will finally join FC Porto. He is on loan from Juventus after a season in which he barely played.
Former Lille player (2019-2023) Tiago Djalo, French champion in 2021, will return to his home country after his training with Sporting. Transferred to Juventus Turin last season during the winter transfer window, the 24-year-old defender failed to establish himself with the Bianconeri. A 2023/2024 season spent in the infirmary after an injury sustained in March during a derby with Lille against RC Lens. A ruptured cruciate ligament kept him off the pitch for 10 months. Back in January 2024, Djalo lacked training and was not used in the second half of the season for Turin. He will have honored his first match during the 38th and last day of Serie A. A substitute against Monza (2-0 victory) in place of Alex Sandro to play a quarter of an hour.
Bouncing back in Porto
While he had participated in the first friendly match of the season against Nuremberg, Djalo had not appeared in the team since the end of July. Thiago Motta was not counting on him as the new season approached and a departure was more than predictable. Recruited by Juve for around five million euros, Djalo is heading to FC Porto on loan until the end of the season with no option to buy. He will try to win back the Portuguese championship title that has eluded the club since 2022. Last season, it was Sporting who won. FC Porto are currently in second place after four games played and are three points behind Sporting. The defender will wear the number three shirt for the Blue and Whites. “For my part, I will give one hundred percent on the pitch. It’s something that characterizes me, being a fighter and I hope for a lot of victories and joy.” he commented upon his arrival.
