California surpassed 25,000 deaths from coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic, the third state to do so after New York and Texashealth officials said.

The grim milestone comes when the country’s most populous state faces a wave of coronavirus infections that has hospitals running at full capacity and nurses and doctors forced to treat more patients than usual.

The Governor’s Office for Emergency Services and the Health and Human Services Agency, has deployed 1,280 medical personnel, including the National Guard, in health centers throughout California. The purpose is to improve the protection of healthcare workers and patients.

” Strengthening the public health workforce is critical to improving our quality of saving lives during this latest wave of coronavirus cases, ” said Mark Ghilarducci, Director of the Office of Emergency Services. “This implementation is an important first step in helping health centers obtain the staffing resources they need.”

Where is the worst?
The Department of Public Health says hospitals in Southern California and the Valley of Saint Joaquin, which together represent a vast majority of the state’s 40 million residents, have no capacity in intensive care units to treat coronavirus patients.

California was the third state to reach 25,000 deaths, behind New York, which has nearly 38,000 deaths, and Texas, which has more than 27,000, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University. . California reported its first case of coronavirus in late January. It was recorded to be the 10,000th death from the virus in August

California too has confirmed the second case in the country of a mutant variant of the coronavirus which seems to be more contagious.
