Thursday Marks the Start of Ramadan Fasting in Saudi Arabia, Declares Official Statement

Authority Arab Saudi has announced that the fasting month Ramadan this year will start on Thursday (23/3) tomorrow.

Reported by the news agency AFPWednesday (22/3/2023), the official news agency Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that the Supreme Court of the kingdom of Saudi ruled on Tuesday (21/3) evening local time, that the month of Shaban in the Islamic calendar, which precedes Ramadan, will end on this Wednesday (22/3), which means Ramadan will begin the following day.

Saudi state media SPA reported that earlier, Saudi authorities on Tuesday (21/3) asked citizens to try to see the crescent moon that marks the start of Ramadan, but it was not visible.

Other Sunni-majority countries including Egypt and Qatar have also declared the month holy Ramadan will begin on Thursday tomorrow, as well as officials in the Palestinian territories.

Meanwhile, authorities in Jordan, Algeria and Morocco said a new decision would be taken on Wednesday local time on whether Ramadan would start on Thursday or Friday.

Fasting is strictly observed in Arab Saudiwith restaurants closed until breaking the fast.
