Thuringian retail workers want more money

Clad in yellow vests and with banners in their hands, retail workers from all over Thuringia in Erfurt took to the streets for higher wages, among other things. The Verdi union spoke on Wednesday of around 200 participants, the police of around 130, who gathered in downtown Erfurt. Matthias Adorf, Trade Secretary for Thuringia at the Verdi union, said that the warning strike also wanted to draw attention to the performance of employees during the corona pandemic. “The colleagues are systemically important. Without them, nothing would have happened in the pandemic,” said Adorf.

Among other things, Verdi is calling for an increase in wages and salaries by 4.5 percent plus 45 euros per month in the retail sector and a fixed minimum wage of 12.50 euros per hour. Collective bargaining is set to continue on Thursday.
