Thuringian Insurance Company Hacked: Sensitive Customer Data Stolen and Published on Dark Web

For the second time, a Thuringian insurance company has fallen victim to a hacker attack. The perpetrators obtained sensitive customer data.

It is difficult to estimate how many Thuringians are affected – but the number could be quite high.

Thuringia: Data appeared on the dark web

We are talking about the Thuringia Accident Insurance Fund (UKT) in Gotha. In an attack in December, the hackers stole sensitive data from customers, survivors, their representatives and information about the member institution, as the UKT writes on its homepage.

The State Criminal Police Office found published customer data on the Darknet. However, the investigators cannot say for sure how many UKT insured people are affected. Therefore, individual affected parties cannot be informed separately.

Bank details etc. published

The hackers stole, among other things, the master data of insured persons, such as name, address, gender, email address, telephone number and bank details. The hackers also obtained the following data:

  • Insurance claim data: date of accident, type of accident, type of injury, diagnoses, company assignment, previous illnesses, health insurance, pension insurance
  • Results of accident and occupational disease investigations

The accident insurance company is now warning that hackers are using the data to carry out phishing or identity theft. They could also create and send emails on behalf of the Thuringian Accident Insurance Fund.

More news:

If you receive an email from the UKT in the near future and are asked for further confidential information, you should pay attention. Don’t click on links or open attachments. If you have any doubts about the letter, it is best to contact the accident insurance company.

Thuringian accident insurance company regrets the consequences

“We assure you that we have already done everything possible in advance to rule out a ransomware attack,” the UKT continues. But the attack has apparently been confirmed. You can find further information on www.ukt.de.
