In Thuringia, municipalities with fewer than 1,000 inhabitants receive a subsidy from the state for the purchase of defibrillators for first aid in cases of life-threatening heart problems.
The Ministry of Health announced that 210,000 euros have been approved for this purpose so far this year. 170 applications for the grant have been submitted, of which 120 have been approved.
According to the ministry, the state’s pot of money for the devices, which are used to treat life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias, ventricular fibrillation and ventricular flutter, is filled with 339,000 euros this year. In view of increasingly hot weather and the associated health risks, widespread availability is not only necessary for older people and heart patients, said Health Minister Heike Werner (Left Party).
The state will cover 80 percent of the cost of purchasing the equipment and a maximum of 2,000 euros. Applications are submitted and processed by the Thuringian State Office for Administration. The application deadline was August 31.
