Erfurt (dpa/th) – There will be no short-term decision by the state government on a possible state office for migration and integration. A report from the Ministry of Migration and the Interior is expected in the third quarter of the year as a basis for decision-making, said State Chancellery Minister Benjamin-Immanuel Hoff (left) on Tuesday after a cabinet meeting at Ettersburg Castle near Weimar. Another topic was the modernization of the administrative structure in Thuringia.
After all, it is about bringing together the immigration authorities and the municipalities in one state office, said Hoff. This should be discussed with the municipalities. Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left) referred to the challenges of integrating people from abroad. This also included the recognition of professional qualifications or faster access to the labor market.
According to figures from the State Statistical Office, there were 126,270 people with foreign passports in Thuringia at the end of 2021. That was 9,140 people or 7.8 percent more than at the end of 2020. The number is likely to have increased this year due to war refugees from Ukraine.
So far, important tasks in the field of migration have been assigned to the state administration office – including coordinating the accommodation of refugees. The State Administration Office is also responsible for the initial reception facility in Suhl. The authority reports to the Ministry of the Interior and not to the Ministry of Migration.
The cabinet decided to transfer the company for labor and economic development from the state development bank to the state administration office. The areas of social affairs, health and inclusion are also to be transferred from the state administration office to the current state office for consumer protection. This would form a state office for social affairs and health.
