Thuringia needs fewer loans

Thuringian Finance Minister Heike Taubert on the nationwide results of the November tax estimate: Budget 2021 needs fewer loans. The basis of the budget preparation for 2022 in Thuringia is confirmed. Caution is advised in view of the current Corona situation.

Erfurt. The German economy continues to recover from the consequences of the corona pandemic. This is reflected in the now estimated tax revenues of the federal, state and local governments for this and the coming years.

For Thuringia, Finance Minister Heike Taubert (SPD) expects positive effects on the state budget, especially for the current year: “In the current year, due to the positive revenue development, we will probably be able to do without a large part of the borrowing originally planned in the budget in the amount of 288 million euros. We may even be able to get along completely without borrowing. This also relieves the burden on the coming budget years, because our repayment obligations for the new debt are decreasing in the course of the corona pandemic. “

Compared to the government draft for the 2022 budget, the result of the current estimate also shows increased income. However, these will be significantly lower than in the current year, as the emerging additional income has already been taken into account in the budget draft: “The results of the tax estimate underline that we have planned the budget with realistic assumptions forward-looking investments. I appeal to the parliamentary groups to adhere to the planned schedule and to enable a farewell in the first plenary session in 2022, ”said Taubert.

At the same time, Taubert continues to urge caution with a view to the coming years: “In our planning, we must not disregard the fact that the current estimate continues to be made with a high degree of uncertainty. The corona pandemic will flare up again for some time in different parts of the world with varying degrees of intensity. In Germany, too, and especially in Thuringia, the number of cases is currently rising rapidly again. Even without regional lockdown measures, this will lead to restrictions in the globally networked production processes, as we are currently seeing, for example, with the supply bottlenecks in the manufacturing sector. Also in view of the current Corona situation, caution is advised, any additional tax income should be withheld for the pandemic defense. “

The “Tax Estimates” working group met from November 9th to 11th, 2021. The TFM will provide information on the effects of the current November tax estimate for the years 2021 to 2026 on Thuringia and its municipalities in the coming week.
