Thurgau: New Companies Settling in Surrounding Communities Amid Wil-West Project Debate

Thurgau

Despite the planned concentration on Wil-West, new companies are settling in the surrounding communities

Large industrial and commercial companies have recently settled in Tägerschen and Eschlikon. For an SP canton councilor, the question arises as to whether the Wil-West project is outdated. This stipulates that the surrounding communities forego settlements and are spared additional traffic.

The Wil-West project plans to locate new companies in a spatially concentrated manner. The surrounding communities should forego new commercial buildings and would be relieved of heavy traffic. According to Edith Wohlfender (SP, Kreuzlingen), this basic idea could be outdated.

In the last two or three years, large industrial and commercial companies have settled in the region, for example in Tägerschen and Eschlikon/Wallenwil, she writes in a simple query. The municipality of Münchwilen even wants to buy industrial and commercial land in order to establish new businesses.

Wohlfender is demanding specific information about this from the government council. Among other things, it is intended to determine how many square meters of building land have been set aside for industry and commerce in the Thurgau communities around Wil and can be built over at any time.

After the St.Gallen voters voted no to the loan for the area development in September 2022, the cantons of Thurgau and St.Gallen are looking for a new solution to develop the area that belongs to St.Gallen but is located in Thurgau.
