Thuram’s two championships: the twentieth with Inter and the one in Calciopoli celebrated as a child with Juventus

ROMA – The photograph bounces from chat to chat, from phone to phone. In the image you can see Marcus Thuram, who was seven years old at the time, celebrating on the pitch with his brother Khepren and his father Lilian, a Juventus player. The match that had just ended was not just any match: the Bianconeri, led by Fabio Capello, had in fact just beaten Cagliari 4-2 at the Delle Alpi stadium, winning the scudetto which was later revoked following Calciopoli and awarded to Inter.

Mutual teasing

In sharing that photograph, Inter and Juventus fans have been making similar jokes for two days – that is, since the Nerazzurri won their twentieth championship, with the decisive goal by Thuram Jr, who has now reached 12 in the season -, albeit with the opposite spirit. “Inter had already won a scudetto,” some write. “He can certainly celebrate 20” and “small but already in cardboard” reply the others, in reference to what the Juventus fans define as “cardboard scudetto”, because it was assigned by default following the revocation of the title to Juventus and the relegation to Serie B, with 9 penalty points, for “structured sporting offence”.
