If you have written an exam with ‘Thund’ at least once during your student days, you must watch this movie. The movie ‘Thund’ is bringing back bursts of laughter after a while in theatres, where laughter has dried up in recent times due to the change in entertainment styles. The ‘art form’ of ‘Thundadi’, which has become more hi-tech in the exam halls of the Newgen era, is nicely presented in the film.
Baby is a senior police constable at Thrissur police station. Baby, who did not take the exam for promotion due to laziness, decides to take the head constable exam under certain circumstances. Convinced that he will not pass the exam in a straightforward way, he is forced to scribble. The following unexpected developments and their consequences are depicted in this film in a humorous way.
The funny scene in the film is when the son is caught cheating in the school exam and the baby tries to cheat in the second half. The movie tells about the problems of ordinary policemen like family problems, being bullied and bullied by their colleagues at the workplace, being scapegoated by their superiors, and having to be scapegoated for mistakes they did not commit. The film is able to make the audience laugh through simple scenes without being hyperbolic.
Biju Menon has played many serious police roles, including Ayyappan Nair, but Baby stands out from them. Through Baby, Bijumenon conveys the inner conflicts experienced by the lowest-level policemen in their daily lives. Another notable character in the film is the policeman played by Gokulan. The film portrays the emotional relationship between the character, who is a police dog trainer, and the dog. Even though the screen space is less, the role of a paranoid policeman has been beautifully done by Shine.
Riyaz Sharif makes a flawless entry for a debutant director with the film. Produced by Ashiq Usman and Jimshi Khalid, Jimshi Khalid is handling the cinematography of the film. The Biju Menon starrer also stars Shine Tom Chacko in the lead role. Rafi, Gokulan, Unnimaya, Shaju and Naushad Ali are the other actors. After an entertaining first half, the film disintegrates into several irrelevant subplots in the second half. The film ends without a major flaw, although the fun breaks from time to time.
Although many police movies have been released in Malayalam in recent times, Tund is different because it focuses on the life problems of the policemen and does not revolve around the usual ways of investigating the case. Although there is not much innovation in the theme or presentation, Tund can be said to be a flawless film that can be seen in theatres.
