Thunderstorm with heavy rain and gusts of wind – DWD warns

Heavy rain, thunderstorms – and strong winds: Munich’s night was unpleasant. But what will the weather be like in the new week?

Unrestful night into Monday: According to the German Weather Service (DWD), thunderstorms and gusts of wind swept across Munich during the night into Monday – and also a lot of rain. A warning on Sunday evening stated that between 25 and 35 liters per square meter were possible within six hours by 4 a.m. on Monday morning.

Wind speeds of around 60 km/h were also expected. In exposed areas, gusts could reach 70 km/h. According to the DWD, thunderstorms and rainfall occurred throughout southern Germany during the night – in some places, these were even heavier than in Munich, with up to 60 litres per square metre expected there, according to the evening forecast. The storms then eased in the second half of the night.

According to the current forecasts, the new week also marks a departure from summer weather: it will be very cloudy and rainy throughout Bavaria. In Munich, 18 degrees are expected on Monday, but on Tuesday it will clear up a bit – and the sun will shine for a few hours, but the temperature will remain just below the 20 degree mark. It will look the same on Wednesday, but again with significantly more rain.

According to the portal “Kachelmannwetter.com”, Munich residents will experience a drop in temperature on Thursday: temperatures will then plummet – peaking at 10 degrees, before dropping to 8 degrees on Thursday and Friday, accompanied by further rain showers.

The weekend on the Isar will also be autumnal: temperatures between 8 and 10 degrees are expected – with occasional heavy rain showers. Time to get the autumn sweater out of the closet.
